Rabbanit Yael Smooha

Hello! My name is Yael Smooha. I’m a veteran classroom teacher and newly ordained rabbi, having taught for over 20 years in the New York metropolitan area in both public schools and Jewish Day Schools. I studied education at Teachers College, Columbia University, and received my rabbinic ordination from Yeshivat Maharat. As a Jewish educator I am constantly tailoring my lessons to the interests and abilities of my students, and facilitating discussions that allow them to bring their perspectives to the Torah they learn. My deepest passions are teaching Jewish text and liturgy in a way that connects us to ourselves, our most important relationships, and our communities. In my free time, I am usually meditating, yoga-ing, journaling, or nature walking.
