Rabbi Becky Silverstein

Rabbi Becky Silverstein believes in the power of community, Torah, and silliness in transforming the world. He strives to build a Jewish community and world that encourages and allows everyone to live a life that reflects their inherent divinity / dignity. Becky is a member of the faculty at SVARA: A Traditionally Radical Yeshiva, co-initiator of the Trans Halakha Project, and a Schusterman Fellow. He has spent many hours facilitating Keshet workshops and staffing shabbatonim. Becky also spends his time in the philanthropy world -- redistributing familiy wealth, talking about Judaism and giving, and fundraising.

Becky believes that relationship building can help create a strong container for learning of all kinds. In learning, he strives to be guided by the text and uninhibited by his own preconceived notions. Genuine curiousity and deep listening are the two tools he uses most frequently to uncover the wisdom in our tradition and each of us.

Becky grew up in New York, holds a B.S. in Engineering from Smith College and Rabbinic Ordination from the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College. He enjoys being outside, kettlebells, making soup, and reading fiction. Becky resides in Jamaica Plain, MA, with his spouse, Naomi Sobel, and kiddo, Edie Gefen, for whom he makes pancakes almost every Sunday morning.
