CONOCE

Rabbi Atara Cohen

Hello! I’m Rabbi Atara Cohen. I love engaging with Torah that speaks to our social, intellectual, and emotional realities. I am passionate about fostering vibrant pluralistic communities in which all members can cultivate their own Jewish journeys. My approach to Torah comes from years in traditional yeshiva settings, Jewish social justice spaces, and studying religion in university. I enjoy bringing the insights of academic scholarship and modern theories of social change to traditional Torah learning.

My rabbinic work has focused on building pluralistic communities, including serving on the Congregation Beit Simchat Torah clergy team, teaching at Heschel School, and leading Base Manhattan. Currently, I serve as the Director of Jewish Life and Learning at the Edlavitch DC JCC. I live in DC with my spouse and a growing number of not-yet-dead plants.
