Amy Cohen is a rabbi, social worker and mom of three adorable kids, based in Austin, Texas. Amy grew up near Boston and after eleven years in Texas continues to identify as a member of Red Sox Nation. Amy is also a social worker and currently serves as the Director of Jewish Family Service, a branch of Shalom Austin.
While studying at NYU and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, Amy focused on the intersection of human relationships and Jewish thought, taking as many classes as she could in pastoral care and family systems. As a pulpit Rabbi, Amy loved being able to witness the ways in which families changed, aged and evolved while in deep relationship with her synagogue community. Amy found a passion for the study of Mussar when she was introduced to the Mussar Institute, and she lead multiple introductory and advanced Mussar groups, finding the daily practice of mussar middot especially grounding, while our world battled Covid-19.
Amy appreciates meditation and is doing her best to practice more often and she enjoys beginning learning sessions with a few deep breathes, to simply slow life down. When Amy is not teaching or leading, she can be found working out (Peloton is her other religion), taking walks with her dog and/or kids, shopping, or cooking.
