Hi! My name is Emily and I serve as an assistant rabbi at Congregation Beth Sholom in Providence, RI, a modern orthodox shul that functions like a come-as-you-are heimishe community with Hasidic inspiration.
I received my ordination from Yeshivat Maharat and college degree in Religion from Muhlenberg and have worked and studied at a wide variety of settings: Shalom Hartman Institute, Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, New York Presbyterian Hospital system, Drisha, Auburn Seminary, the Hebrew Home in Riverdale, Columbia/Barnard Hillel, and the Stanton Street Shul on the Lower East Side. I am an alumnus of the Wexner Graduate Fellowship, Jewish Innovation Fellowship at the 92nd St Y, Mahloket Matters Fellowship at Pardes, and am beginning (please G!d), the ATRA fellowship this year.
I am what the Myers-Briggs personality test calls "stressfully extroverted," so conversing with you only energizes me. When I'm not learning Torah or thinking of ways to make Jewish life more accessible and soulful, I can be found reading memoirs, volunteering, and frequenting coffee shops with my husband Jonah and our overly friendly Golden Retriever named Barley!
