MEET
Rabbi Atara Cohen

Hello! I’m Rabbi Atara Cohen.I love engaging with Torah that speaks to our social, intellectual, and emotional realities, and am passionate about fostering vibrant pluralistic communities in which all members can cultivate their own Jewish journeys. I have spent a lot of time in traditional yeshiva settings: I received ordination from Yeshivat Maharat and have learned at Midreshet Nishmat, Hadar, and Drisha. I also studied religion as an undergraduate at Princeton University, and I enjoy bringing the insights of academic scholarship to traditional Torah learning.

During rabbinical school, I focused on human rights and social change through various fellowships. I served as a rabbinic intern at the Columbia-Barnard Hillel and as a Cooperberg-Rittmaster Pastoral and Educational Intern at Congregation Beit Simchat Torah, and I currently teach Torah She’beal Peh at the Abraham Joshua Heschel School. I live in Manhattan, where I run, knit, and enjoy cooking for my friends and family.
