Rabbi Evon Yakar

Evon is passionate about creating community and connecting people around moments of meaning. He is a proud father of two elementary school age boys and devoted partner to Rachel Yakar. His family lives in South Lake Tahoe where he has served as the Rabbi of Temple Bat Yam since 2011 and as Rabbi of North Tahoe Hebrew Congregation in Tahoe Vista since 2017. This collaboration between two Reform synagogues has been an amazing expression of his commitment to Jewish Peoplehood and so much more! He is an avid skier and cyclist taking advantage of living in Tahoe at every opportunity. Throughout his rabbinate, Evon strives to seize every chance to engage community out of doors, recreating together with programs like Torah Hikes: Divrei Torah on the Trail and Shabbat on Snow ski days. Evon Yakar was ordained from Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2007. Since ordination, Evon has found deep meaning in the mainstream pulpit experience and entrepreneurial opportunities as well. Working with Adventure Judaism based in Boulder, CO and Camp Tawonga with their B’nai Mitzvah program, Evon cherishes the chance to be creative in how we gather, live, and learn as Jews. From traditional text study moments to learning on the trail, Evon loves every moment delving into the richness of what Judaism offers. You can read more about Evon’s rabbinate on his Temples’ websites, www.tbytahoe.org and www.tahoetemple.org.
